Our Story

History of the barn

Our barn's story began in 1916, built not for cows, but for horses — a way to keep one son safely home from the fields of World War I. When the war ended, the barn found new purpose as a dairy barn, and for decades it stood at the heart of a working Vermont farm.

Rather than start over, we chose to honor that history. The restoration preserved the barn's original beams and structural wood, supplemented with reclaimed timber salvaged from other historic barns across the region, so the character of a century's worth of Vermont life — from wartime to working farm — remains woven into every wall and rafter.

Beneath it all, we added new floors of locally milled wood — a modern foundation that still speaks the same rustic-elegant language as the beams above. The result is a space that feels both storied and polished: a barn that has been thoughtfully restored, not merely renovated.

Today, that same barn opens onto a wide deck with sweeping views of Vermont farmland — a place where the past and present meet, and where new stories are ready to be written.
